Instructor Bios
Mark Courtney
Mark Courtney is a 26-year law enforcement veteran, working for the Marion County (IN) Sheriff’s Department from 1980-2006. In his last 7 years of service, Mark worked in the Training Division where he coordinated and instructed several different classes for hundreds of deputies and other officers. His history with MCSD also includes service as an Evidence Technician and time with Communications, Jail and Road Patrol divisions. Mark also served as an adjunct instructor for the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Indiana State Police and Indiana Police Corps and completed seven years of service to the Indiana State Fraternal Order of Police executive board where he chaired the officer safety committee.
Mark is a 1979 graduate of Ball State University and in 1993 co-founded an organization to provide law enforcement style training to local security companies. Mark is a member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association and now provides pipeline safety instruction around the country for Paradigm Liaison Services, their pipeline customers and his program guests.
In 2007, Mark completed and was certified as a trainer in the National Association of State Fire Marshals Pipeline Emergencies course.
Mark is also a member of the Indiana Chapter of InfraGard, an FBI sponsored organization dedicated to protection of the United States infrastructure including the pipeline and energy industries.
Sam Jerideau
Sam Jerideau brings to his customers and guests a 35-year law enforcement and training career. Sam worked at the North Charleston police department, the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy where he retired as Deputy Director, as well as the Indiana Police Corps where he retired as Director.
Sam has trained hundreds of police officers, firefighters, and criminal justice majors throughout his career, teaching a multitude of classes at different colleges and universities. His course development activities include Introduction to Criminal Justice; Arrest Procedures; Shooting Decision; and Cultural Diversity. He has also held training certifications in Basic Instructor for pistol, shotgun and rifle; Defensive Tactics Instructor; and Driving Instructor.
Sam has been a member of the Palmetto Law Enforcement Officers’ Association, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association, and the South Carolina State Firearms Association.
Sam holds a Doctoral degree from LaSalle University in Criminal Justice. In addition to serving the public as a law enforcement officer, Sam is a retired Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard.
Troy Nicholson
Troy Nicholson has over 15 years of experience in leadership and Management positions. During which time Troy has been responsible for building guidelines for safety programs and organizing safety teams for the company's he's worked with.
In the last 6 years he held the position of Operations Manager for one of the top 5 Logistics companies in the United States. During this time he was responsible for the day to day operations of the company as well as hiring and managing all of the safety and training programs.
Troy has been certified to "Train-the-Trainer" in Industrial equipment operation and Haz-Mat certification. In 2009 Troy was certified to "Train-the Trainer" by the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) Pipeline Emergencies course.
Steve Roberts
Steve Roberts is a 22-year law enforcement veteran, working for the Cowley County (KS) Sheriff’s Department from 1986 – 2008. In his last 12 years of service, he served as the hiring and training supervisor for new officers, as well as directing continuing education programs for veteran officers. He recently completed a new 200 bed jail and sheriff’s office project, worked as the lead supervisor for a multi-jurisdictional drug task force unit specifically dealing with the manufacturing, production, and haz-mat clean up of methamphetamine and its bi-products. Further, he has been on several committees working with fire, EMS, and emergency management officials to improve communication, incident command, and homeland security grant funding opportunities in an effort to improve regionalization and collaboration efforts for a 19 county south central Kansas emergency response area.
Steve is a 2006 graduate of American InterContinental University with a Masters Degree in education with a concentration in Instructional Technology (IT) and a 2007 graduate of the Central States Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar. He is a member of the Kansas Sheriff’s Association and Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police and also serves as an online college criminal justice and homeland security instructor and course developer. He now provides pipeline safety instruction around the country for Paradigm Liaison Services.
In 2008, Steve completed and was certified as a trainer in the National Association of State Fire Marshals Pipeline Emergencies course.
Robert Soto
Robert Soto is a 20-year law enforcement veteran, working for both the Winfield Police Department and Cowley County Sheriff’s Office in Winfield, KS from 1989 – 2008. During his career Robert served as a training and patrol Sergeant. He also served as a School Resource Officer, Criminal Investigator, and Drug Task Force Investigator. In this position, Robert was involved with numerous illegal drug buy operations and Haz-Mat incidents involving the clean-up of Methamphetamine Laboratory Bi-products.
Robert served as a region 5 Kansas Gang Investigators Association Board Member, as well as a certified ASP and Self-Defense instructor for many years. Robert was a member of the Kansas Sheriff’s Association and Kansas Peace Officers Association. Robert has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice.
